Steven Davies Calls for Fast Start in Euro 2020 Qualifiers

Northern Ireland’s Steven Davies claims that it would be a remarkable achievement for the nation if they qualify for the Euro 2020. The qualification campaign for this competition starts with a round of games in this latest international break.
Northern Ireland will also be one of the teams involved in this round and they have a great responsibility in order to build on the Euro 2016 qualification. Northern Ireland created history by reaching the Euro 2016 but failing to build on that outcome will be a major disappointment for the national team.

Since the national team are up against teams like Belarus and Estonia in Group C, there is a good chance of Ireland getting off to a positive start and Davies is also expecting a similar outcome. Davies also says that the memories of the Euro 2016 positivity are still fresh for Northern Ireland players and this will help them provide extra motivation for the opening two rounds in March. Belarus and Estonia will once again be the opponents for Northern Ireland in the June round of games before they take on Luxembourg in a friendly match in September. All these games do present a winnable solution for Northern Ireland, whose last victory was in September when they beat Israel. Since then, the team has been unable to win the last four games.

"“There's a real determination within the squad that we want to go and achieve something special again“and have that experience once again,” said the Northern Ireland captain.Davies was able to get just one win in the four group games at the Euro 2016, but this win – against Ukraine – almost gave them hope of reaching the knockout stages of the competition. Michael O’Neill has been in “charge of the national team“ since 2011 and he has the best group of players at this moment.
